On November 27, 2018, organizations around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
In 2016, Yellow Springs was one of more than 80 communities nationwide that led their own #GivingTuesday movement to benefit local nonprofits. With support from the Yellow Springs Community Foundation, the 16 participating nonprofits raised over $75,000 in 24 hours!
Beyond the financial benefits, #GivingTuesday is an opportunity to build local nonprofits’ capacity to conduct online giving campaigns. #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to amplify your organization’s message and reach new audiences. In 2016, each participating local nonprofit gained an average of 6 new donors. This year, we are hoping to increase that number by providing more best practice guidance to participants and making changes to the YS Giving Tuesday website to promote giving to multiple participating organizations.
This year organizations are being asked to sign an MOU that outlines the roles and responsibilities of the participating nonprofits and the YS Giving Tuesday Planning Committee. At a minimum, organizations will have 501(c)(3) status, provide information for the YS Giving Tuesday website (e.g., logos) and provide post-campaign data to the Committee for reporting purposes (e.g., total $ raised, # of new donors, etc.).
